ABOUT SIM

Sim Gill is a career prosecutor and first-generation immigrant who proudly serves the people of Salt Lake County as District Attorney.

Sim came to this country, like so many others, believing in the promise that in America, justice isn't reserved for the powerful, it belongs to everyone. He grew up in Kearns, earned his degree in History and Philosophy at the University of Utah, went to law school and became a prosecutor.

In 2010, Sim made history as the first Indian-born District Attorney elected in the United States. As DA, Sim has always believed that it is possible to reform the criminal justice system without compromising public safety. That’s why he has built one of the most reform-minded prosecution offices in the country, creating programs like Mental Health Court and Veterans Court, which have helped thousands of people get treatment instead of incarceration.

Sim is running for re-election to continue applying the law with transparency and accountability, even when it’s unpopular, guided by the values that brought him to this country: justice, fairness, equality, and truth.

“My family came to this country believing in the ideals of justice, fairness, equality, and truth. These ideals guide me every day as your District Attorney.”
